Weddings are so much fun to photograph but can be exhausting. I normally take a day to rest after the day but I'm so excited about last night's wedding that I'm already starting to edit them! Here's a preview but there are more to come soon!

Also, Jane was featured on WRAL News yesterday for having her wedding during a NC snow storm. If you watch the video you can see me taking photos of Jane. Look out for my lime green camera strap!

I'm a Wolfpack fan. I went to NC State and I bleed red. That said, I do support other local teams. I have family that went to ECU and Carolina so I have a small part of me that likes them too - unless they are playing State and then all bets are off.

Jane and Taiwon are to Carolina what I am to State. They are die hard Carolina fans and with due reason. Not only is it an excellent school but that's where they fell in love. Awh. Last week all three of us made a trip to Carolina's campus to get some engagement shots of the happy couple. It was a lot of fun and I got to see the campus up close and personal.

I have the privilege of documenting Jane and Taiwon's wedding this weekend. All of the weather forecasts have predicted a little bit of snow on Saturday morning. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather cooperates and just dusts the grass. Either way, it's going to be a glorious day! Can't wait to share it with you!

Andy : Fun - Child Photographer Raleigh NC

There is so much to be thankful for. Yeah, the economy isn't the best but I think that people are making the most of it and really turning to what's important. Yesterday I was lucky to have both sides of the family close enough to travel to. I ate fabulous food and saw people that I don't see often enough. On our way home last night I thought about all the things in my life that make me happy and how grateful I am for them. It's no surprise that photography was on that list. I'm so blessed to be invited into peoples lives to document their happiest occasions. It's truly an honor.

Andy is an adorable little boy who loves baseball just like daddy! He was such a cutie and was so curious! He sort of ran out of steam at the end when we went outside. I think those are my favorite!

As you know, this time of year is my favorite. It starts with Halloween with its costumes and scariness. Then we have the blessed day of my birth. Yes, people, my birthday was Monday! The big 3-1! It's been such a good week! Everyone has been so nice with their good wishes! Oh and the cake… the CAKE! I've had cake for breakfast every day since Saturday and I'm not apologizing. It's the only time of year that eating cake for breakfast isn't frowned upon (well, not completely). Whatever. I'm allowed.

Normally odd number birthdays are tough but 31 has been good to me so far. Don't ask why odd number years are tough - I can't tell you why. I guess it's just a quirk of mine (one of the many…)

Speaking of birthdays, there are two little ladies that were born recently that I have yet to blog. Geof and Dara gave birth to their sweet little girls, Alexa and Avery on Oct 14. I'll be photographing the little ladies soon but thought I should show their lovely parents first. I photographed them on their anniversary and you can just tell how much in love they are. They're an amazing couple and I can't wait to photograph them with their beautiful daughters!

Adult Version of a Merit Badge - Photographer Raleigh NC

I remember girls coming to elementary school in their Girl Scout uniforms and being really jealous of their cute matching outfits and cool badges. They were a part of a "club" and everyone knew it because they displayed it proudly. The part of me that was jealous is gone now, partially because I'm an adult but partially because I earned my own "adult merit badge" this past Sunday. I completed my first half marathon! Yes, indeed, I did and I still have two working legs! Amazing!

I competed in the Rex Healthcare Half Marathon on Sunday. It started to drizzle when we started at 7am. At mile 2 (out of 13.1) I noticed drops of water falling off the brim of my hat. By mile 5, it was all out pouring. Definitely not the conditions I trained in. Nonetheless, I completed it and lived to tell about it! I may not have a sash but I still wear my badge with pride!

Happy Halloween! Halloween is like my Christmas. I have always loved that you can dress up as something ridiculous and people reward you with candy. How cool is that?!

Sweet Avery is dressed in her Halloween get up! Isn't she adorable! She's definitely a mover, for sure. I got a work out just from trying to catch her!

An Amazing Cause : Cary Walk for Hope

Everyone has a cause that they believe in. Mine is the Lungevity Foundation is an organization that raises money for lung cancer research. My amazing father in law, Ray, lost his battle with lung cancer in 2005. Tomorrow we will walk in his memory in the Cary Walk for Hope.

The Cary Walk for Hope is tomorrow and will raise money for the Lungevity Foundation. If you would like to donate or participate click this website link and you'll be directed to the walk homepage. You can also check out our team Running for Ray by clicking the link here.

This year's walk will take place at Koka booth Amphitheater around Symphony Lake in Cary. Registration begins at 9am and the walk starts at 10am.

The path is less than two miles and is dog and stroller friendly. The Cary Walk for Hope is the perfect event for families looking to raise money for a great cause without having to be a race ready athlete!

Brian & Amber : Wedding - Wedding Photographer Raleigh NC

Amber's sister Kimberly said something in her wedding speech that stuck with me. She said that Brian really "got" Amber's sense of humor. When I first met them, I knew that Brian and Amber "got" each other. They both seemed fairly quiet at our consultation but you could tell they were on the same page. Brian and Amber's love is not loud and it doesn't need to be. Their wedding was a reflection of how connected they are and how much fun they have together. It was truly a party!

The wedding and reception were held at the gorgeous Wakefield Plantation in Wake Forest. Here are some images from the day:

From what I'm told, Brian is known for dancing like Vanilla Ice at weddings. Amber and Brian decided to give their guests the treat of a special guest. Brian does the best impersonation I've seen. His moves... well, they speak for themselves! I honestly don't know how he did them without breaking something.
I've been known to shake what my momma gave me at weddings. I just can't help it, especially if the music is awesome. Thanks to Action Entertainment this reception was amazing!
The cupcake "cake" was from one of my favorite shops - The Cupcake Shoppe. I adore their cupcakes because you can tell that they're made from fresh ingredients. I'm a bit of a baked goods snob but The Cupcake Shoppe is high on my list! Yum! Not only are they yummy but they're pretty too!

Bono Is My New BFF - Photographer Raleigh, NC

Bono and I were just acquaintances until a couple of weekends ago. I had friends who were super fans. They own every album, have been to a zillion shows, and even know his middle name. I just knew that he sang "With or Without You" and was really into saving the world. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah! All of that changed when I was formally introduced. It went something like this:

Bono, meet Leah.
Leah, meet Bono, the magical gatekeeper of all things amazing.

The concert was absolutely amazing! Seriously people - it was the best concert I've ever been to. We were on the field (50 yard line!) and so close to fabulous, beautiful Bono! (I think I have a little crush...) There are very few musicians that I'll go ga-ga over but U2 is on the official list. I've also found that U2 not only soothes my soul but my son's soul too. When I'm in the car and Mason is screaming his head off, all I have to do is put on a U2 song and Mason is slient. It doesn't work with any other artist - just U2 - so therefore I'm downloading more U2 songs on the iPod as I type. They're magic I tell ya!

Jeremy & Jessica : Wedding - Wedding Photographer Raleigh

Meeting people is one of the many cool parts of being a photographer. You get to meet different people in the industry and most importantly, you meet your clients. While a lot of the life events are similar, every person is different which makes for a different experience each time. When Jessica called me, she was like every other frantic bride who has too much on her plate and not enough time to finish it all. She needed a wedding photographer and wanted to meet with me. We met for coffee and chatted. She told me what she was looking for in the bridal portrait and her fabulous pink shoes (check them out in the previous post). She told me how her and Jeremy met and how excited she was to be getting married. Jeremy joined us a short while later and we talked about families and wedding details. When we were done, I walked back to my car feeling like I had just left a meeting with friends I hadn't seen in a while. The conversation was easy and full of laughter. I left knowing that I was truly going to enjoy their wedding not as a hired photographer, but as a guest. I was honored to be a part of such a special day. Jeremy and Jessica's wedding was beautiful and you can see from the images below just how much they love each other. Thanks guys for letting me document your day and I hope you had a blast in St. Lucia! Can't wait to see photos!

on cloud nine!

Jessica has five brothers and one sister. Yep. Five brothers and one sister. Maybe it's just me and my "only child" upbringing but that's a lot of siblings. Oh, and they're tall. Really tall. And super nice and patient with a short blond wedding photographer who made them do all sorts of crazy things in hot weather. :) Thanks gentlemen!

Here is the long awaited bridal shoot for Jessica. I've been wanting to blog it since we shot it but promised that I wouldn't ruin the surprise and wait until after the wedding. She is such a gorgeous and fun bride! It was hot as three hades when we shot this but you won't see a bit of a glow on Jessica. She handled the session with ease and grace and was up for any of my suggestions. She had complete faith in me and my camera which is such a compliment. Thanks Jessica! I'll have the wedding photos up soon!

I was adjusting my lens when I caught this. I don't think Jessica even knew I was photographing her. It's one of my favorites.

This shot was Jessica's request. She wanted some shots with bare feet. I think she looks so classic even in this not so classic pose.

At our consultation, Jessica mentioned that she had special pink shoes that she wanted to wear for the bridal session. The soft pink was so dainty. Love them!Some classic poses because, well, I can. :)

I'm not the best at blogging. I admit it. It's hard to find the words sometimes and today is no different. I'm not going to talk about the horrible thing that happened eight years ago. Instead I'm going to remind everyone to call someone they love today. Yep. Reach out and touch someone. Go hug someone you may have taken for granted. Give your child an extra kiss. Talk to a neighbor that you haven't seen in a while. Love someone a little extra today. Take a moment to be grateful for what you have. It's a day like today that makes me realize that the little things matter more and more. Here's a photo I took a couple of years ago of the sunrise from my backyard. I swear on my camera that no photoshop was used. Every time I look at it, it makes me happy. Hopefully it does the same for you too.

Ashton, Bryce, Chase : Triplets - Multiples Photographer Raleigh

I love children sessions and I love a challenge. When I met with these little boys I got both! I'm pleased to introduce Ashton, Bryce, and Chase, the adorable triplets I photographed a couple of weeks ago. These precious kiddos were full of energy and ended up wearing themselves out. Their parents deserve an award (and a nap) because these little guys are just three of seven siblings. You can tell that this family is full of love - they're lucky little boys!

Little ones grow up so quickly. I've been looking back at some photos I took of my son only a couple of weeks ago and I can't believe the change. He's only 3.5 months and he's already a different person than he was just a few weeks ago. One morning you wake up and poof -> they're twice their size!

I photographed sweet Alex when he was just a couple of weeks old. There was only a small window where he was willing to go to sleep. The rest of the time he wanted to be a part of the action. "I'm ready for my closeup!" Most babies either love or hate to be swaddled. Alex was in the middle. He didn't mind being swaddled as long as one arm was out. His dad said it's because he was going to ride bulls like he did. I have to say he might be right. This little guy had strong arms! I also had to incorporate dad's cowboy boots and hat because, well, they're awesome, and I can see little Alex sporting his own very soon! Here are just a few of my favorites:

This time of year was so exciting for me. I loved going back to school. I think I loved it more because I had (and still have) an unhealthy love for paper products and I had an excuse to buy new supplies. I still get a little giddy when I see advertisements telling you to "stock up for the school year." I try to stay away from office supply stores for this very reason...

Here is a session I shot with Erin and Maura. It had to be the windiest day of the year! Erin will start at East Carolina University this week and Maura will be attending Green Hope High School. I know both girls will have a blast at their new schools. Best of luck ladies!

Blessed & Thankful - Maternity Photographer NC

I'm truly blessed. My grandmother said so. A couple of weeks ago, my grandma was in town for my son and nephew's christening. It was the first time she met my son and you could see her excitement in her ear to ear grin she had. I told her that he's a good baby and that Michael and I are getting the hang of parenthood. I told her that we aren't loosing too much sleep and that he's thriving. Then I told her how lucky we were. The grin disappeared and she gave me the matter of fact look that only a grandma can give and said, "There's no luck about it. You're blessed."

That statement has been rolling around in my head and I now realize she's right. Luck is winning $2 on a scratch off card or getting out of a traffic ticket. Blessed is having the support and love from your family and friends. Blessed is surviving a three month old (okay, maybe there's a little luck in this one). Blessed is being able to do a job that I love that celebrates the joy in peoples lives. I'm so thankful for the chance to document the little (and big) things that make life so great.

Brian and Kristin are no exception. A couple of weeks ago, I shot a session with them as they awaited the birth of their daughter, Madison. Well, Madison has arrived and I get to meet her this weekend. I'm beyond excited! In the meantime, here are some of my favorite shots from the maternity session.

A Little Personal Work - Raleigh Children Photographer

I did something today that I haven't done in a while. For once, I edited personal family photos. This is a rarity for me. Normally I take family shots and they are lost in the abyss that is my external hard drive. Today I decided to take a breather and get some personal ones done. My nephew Jack was at the beach with us a couple of weeks ago and he had a new trick. This 5 month old can now sit up on his own (well, for at least a little while on his own). To celebrate this, his loving aunt decided to stick him in a sand dune and take some photos of him (poor kid). He's so adorable! Here are a couple of my favorites:

Oh what a bad blogger I am. I blame it on the lack of sleep but I promise to get better. In fact, I'm going to try to blog for seven days straight. "Impossible!" you say. Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it! So here I am, putting my mind to it. I'm going to blog a little more about me and a lot more about my clients. Here we go!

I just got back from a week long trip where I enjoyed the company of family and some really nice weather. But I have an issue with the beach that I'm a little ashamed to admit. I'm not a beach person. Before you throw me out to sea, hear me out. I love the idea of the beach but not the beach itself. I love warm weather, sea air, windy weather, the sound of waves crashing. Sand, saltwater, and sunblock don't mix well and when they do, it makes for a very uncomfortable situation. And need I mention the large body of water that contains man eating animals and rip tides. I'm learning to live with this and now that I have a child I realized that I'm going to have to change quickly. Pretty soon, little Mason will be moving on his own and carrying piles of sand in his pampers. In the meantime, I'm going to sit by the pool and enjoy the animal free, chlorinated water, lounge chairs, and concrete.

Emmie : Newborn - Newborn Photographer Raleigh

Newborns are amazing - tiny little people who will eventually grow up and be big people. It's hard to imagine that we were all once that little and depended so much on someone else. Emmie was born in March and since I went on maternity leave rather suddenly, I wasn't able to blog the session. I'm sure this beautiful girl has changed so much since I saw her in April!

Alison : Bridal - Wedding Photographer NC

When I got a call from Alison in November to set up her bridal session, I was really excited to meet her. She sounded so cool over the phone and I thought we would get along really well. When we met later to discuss the details, I was psyched! Alison is one of those people who shines without trying. She's just natural and easy going with a fun side that makes you smile. I was grinning from ear to ear during the consultation and I'm sure she thought I was a goof!

The session was amazing! I suggested an urban session so we went into downtown Raleigh. I liked mixing traditional with non-conventional. Alison rocked the camera and made it her best friend! She said she didn't do any research before but I would have to beg to differ. When I come to a session, I have a pocketful of ideas that grow and change as the shoot continues. It helps *so much* if the bride (or anyone for that matter) has an idea of what they like and dislike so the day of we can work together to make the most out of it. Alison was full of ideas and willing to go along with the odd things I suggested. And to top it all off - no rain!

Congratulations Alison! I know your wedding was beautiful!

I'd like to introduce you to our newest member of the Charbonneau family - Mason Raymond Charbonneau! He arrived on May 15 at 6:08am and is healthy and happy! I thought I'd go ahead and add some photos to the blog as people have been asking for an update. He's such a joy and we're so lucky to have him! Thank you for prayers and support!

Jackson : Fun - Photographer Raleigh

It's a really cool thing when you can watch a kid as he/she grows up. I'll be experience it soon enough but in the meantime, I've been watching Jackson. At first he ignored me and the camera. Then he was curious about the flash and almost posed for me like he knew what I was doing. Now, he's in a "Put that thing down and play with me!" phase which is a new challenge in itself. Ah, the life of a three year old!

I adore Jackson and love playing with him. There's always an adventure to be had! We fed the ducks for a while. I was a little worried with the size of some of those geese and that one might run off with Jackson. I can happily report that no fingers were lost in the making of these photographs!

I forgot, how old are you again?

The next three are my favorite. Of course I had to give a 3 year old an umbrella on the windiest day of the year! Thank goodness he didn't end up like Mary Poppins!

Sailor : Fun - Photographer Raleigh

Sailor is one of those kids that should be in a Gerber baby commercial. Blonde hair, blue eyes, cute little round cheeks. He's adorable, wide eyed, and curious! And you'd never know he was fighting some jet lag. Sailor lives in California and came back to NC to visit family. His thoughtful mother (whom I've known for about 10 years - whoa!) decided to give me a call. I'm so happy she did!

We had some fun playing at the WRAL gardens and then headed over to Pullen Park. Of course he was dressed in the cutest outfits!

Before you proceed, beware. This kid will put you on cute overload!

The Happiest Day of My Life

Four years ago today was the happiest day of my life. I married the most wonderful man in the entire world. When I met him in fifth grade, I knew he was the one for me. Who knew that 21 years later, we'd be married and expecting our first child. I still get butterflies when he enters a room, even after all those years. :)

Rashawn & Johnna : Engagement - Photographer Raleigh

Now here's my definition:

Rashawn & Johnna.

I've done many engagement sessions and every couple is unique and special. Rashawn and Johnna are no exception. As most engaged couples, they can't get enough of each other but Johnna and Rashawn have a little something else. They are both completely and totally comfortable with one another - just happy to be in each other's presence. It's nice to see and even more wonderful to be around. The warm fuzzies that they gave me at our session still haven't left me.

Fabulous Finds at fab'rik - Photographer Raleigh

I'm definitely not the most fashionable person. Don't get me wrong - I'm not wearing XL hypercolor t-shirts and crimping my hair. I try to pay attention to trends and look at what other people are wearing to see what's out there. I know my limits and tend to stick to a comfortable medium. That said, I like to get help and advice from others who are "in the know" to help me break out of my comfort zone a bit and venture into the land of fashion. In other words, I have people. Who are these people, you ask? The fabulous people at fab'rik!

I recently had a product shoot with them and was overwhelmed by the clothing, accessories, shoes, purses, etc I saw. When my former, non-pregnant body returns, I'm definitely heading there. And, you won't break the bank shopping there either. Honestly, you should really go and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed, I promise!

I've seen a lot of press on it lately and decided to look into it. Then I found out that my own husband had an account. He has an account and I don't? What?! All of a sudden I felt really behind. Well, dear readers, I have to apologize. I've been a very bad blogger and I'm sorry. I'm ready to get back on the blogging horse, so to speak. It's been a crazy month and I've got so many things to share! I promise to be better and share more often!

First and foremost I have some personal news to share. I have many titles in my life - wife, photographer, dog owner, daughter, etc - but there's one that I haven't obtained until now. Mother! Yep, that's right ladies and gentlemen, we're expecting! Our little boy is expected to arrive June 4th and we're beyond excited. I'm thrilled that soon I'll be starting a new phase in my life. Yay!

With my due date fast approaching (whoa!) I wanted to let you know that my calendar is quickly filling up. I'm taking leave from May 1 to July 31 to prepare and enjoy my little boy. I will still be online and available, just not taking clients during that time. I have few limited openings leading up to May and I'm already starting to book in the fall. If you're thinking about a late summer session, contact me now - spaces are limited!

Second, I'm an aunt! My nephew, Jack, was born on Feb 27 at 8:08pm. He weighed in at 9lbs 1oz and is absolutely adorable. You may remember Elizabeth from my previous post. Here's Jack in January:

Katy & Brian: Engagement - Photographer Raleigh

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I love this season! Valentines with a popular cartoon character, cherry lollipops with the white heart on the top, people professing their love for one another, couples getting engaged... Love month is great!

I got to celebrate love month with a terrific couple - Katy and Brian. Although I'm not shooting their May wedding, I know it's going to be an amazing event! They are such a fun couple and Brian is goof! He does a perfect impersonation of a Wii character that kept Katy and I in stitches! Thanks for hanging out with me on such a cold, cold day!
The morning we went out it was about 17 degrees outside. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating but it sure did feel like it! I love when couples are up for anything and completely flexible. I get some of the best shots that way. Brian and Katy were awesome - they even sat on the cold concrete, without coats, so I could get this shot. And to top it off, not one complaint! You guys rock!

We also went to the Farmer's Market to hang out for a little while. Since there weren't a lot of outdoor vendors and it was ice cold, we decided to go inside for a little while and get some shots. This candy was so enticing!

I love snow! We don't usually get snow in North Carolina (normally just ice) but we were blanketed yesterday with about 6 inches. It was beautiful! Thought I'd post some shots of my dog Gracie enjoying the snow. It was her first experience in more than 1/4 inch and she adored it.

This time of year is great. I know, I know - I'm suppose to be depressed and blue because the holidays are over and now I'm facing holiday bills. Well, I'm not. I refuse to. Why? New Year, New Booth, New Resolutions

It's 2009! I'm thrilled to be in a new year. You hear it on every news show out there but I really dig the whole "new year - new beginnings" thing. Starting over is great. It's like a breath of fresh air but better!

I'm one of those people who makes resolutions. I like them. I like goals. The problem I've had with resolutions in the past is that I make them too specific - "Lose 1o lbs" instead of "Get healthy," "Book xx number of sessions" instead of "Boost my number of clients." This year will be different! Here are just a couple of my goals for 2009.

By the end of 2009 I want to:

~ Build my brand: I want to strengthen my business as a whole from the inside and focus on all aspects instead of a couple of different areas.
~ Build my body: I want to be healthier and feel stronger all year long. Right now I feel better than I ever have and I want to continue that. I've got a lot of cool and interesting things happening in 2009 and I need to be in shape for it! I also need to cut down my level of stress and enjoy life and the people around me more.
~Build my mind: I want to read/learn more. Whether it be a fiction book, a book about business, or the newspaper, I feel like I've been skipping out on things around me. I want to make some time to do the things I've been meaning to do.

I started the new year with a bang at the Forever Bridal Show this past weekend. It was a great experience and I met so many beautiful brides! I look forward to doing more of them in the future. It was so much fun!

It's been a crazy and wonderful holiday season for me and I've been delinquent on blogging. I promise to be more diligent in 2009! Jackson : Fun

I get to see Jackson a couple of times a year and every time he's a doll. He informed me when I met with him a couple of weeks ago that he is now "two and a half" years old. This means I've known him for two years. Wow! Time really does fly by. Every time I see him I'm amazed at his eyelashes. I say it a lot but seriously, they are so long! He's a such a cute kid and a total ham for the camera. Not shy at all. That's another reason I love him!

We went to NC State campus (Jackson's parents and my alma mater - GO PACK!) and played in The Court of Carolina. Thanks for a great afternoon! On to the photos...

Bill & Brandi : Wedding

Bill & Brandi are patient. Patient with with each other and patient with timing. When a couple gets engaged, they can't wait until their big day gets here. It seems like forever until the big walk down the aisle. I think it felt just a little longer for Bill & Brandi. Bill lived in Florida and Brandi lived in North Carolina. As they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder!

The wedding was held at beautiful Revolution Mills in Greensboro, NC. The site used to be a jeans factory before it was abandoned and now turned into offices and reception hall. I adored the rod iron and exposed brick. If you're ever in Greensboro, you need to check this place out!

You met Bill & Brandi in September at their engagement session (click here to check it out). The fireworks I saw at the engagement were no match to the wedding day. Wow! They both looked stunning and I loved the feel of the whole day! Without further ado, here are some shots from the day:

Leaving my 20s behind...

Well, it happened. I couldn't do anything to stop it....

Yesterday I turned 30! Happy birthday to me! :)

To be honest, I'm not sad to leave my 20s. In fact, I'm super happy to be in my 30s. I'm at a very good place in my life and I couldn't be happier to start a new decade! The friends and family that surround me are great and supportive - what more could I ask for in life? And not to mention, I love my job! :)

My darling husband surprised me with a weekend trip to New York! I used to live there and really miss it. It's really hard to surprise me since I'm such a planner and well, I like to know what's going on. He caught me off guard and I am amazed that I didn't ruin the surprise and find out. He had an itinerary printed up the show we were going to see (Avenue Q - hilarious fun with puppets but definitely not for the Sesame Street crowd!), times we were meeting with old friends and restaurant reservations. I tell ya, he's a keeper! Thanks honey! xoxo

Tessa & Lleyton: Fun

I get really excited when I have a shoot. No matter what type of session it is, I know I'm going to have fun. Most people can't say that their job involves only happy times and happy people. Man, I love my job!

I was super excited to meet Tessa and Lleyton! Kids will show you their whole personality without hesitation. It's great! When you become an adult you learn to hold back, feel the other person out, and then proceed. Kids - not so much - full speed ahead! These two were the captains of personality! We went to Umstead Park and walked (or should say hiked) around enjoying the beautiful day.

I posted some of my favorites but saved the possible Holiday cards for Mom's eyes only. Wouldn't want to ruin the surprise!

JP & Meredith : Wedding

When I met Meredith during the consultation in January I knew right away that this wedding was going to be fun. I just didn't realize how much fun until a couple of weeks ago! JP and Meredith said "I do" at The Matthews House in Cary. Thanks to many prayers the rain stayed away but fall did arrive with a little crisp air. Here are the photos I promised - more to come soon!

LOVE these shoes!

JP and Meredith opted for the first look instead of waiting for the ceremony to see each other. I love when couples go for this as it takes the pressure off the bride and groom to take photos after the ceremony. After the wedding most couples want to start enjoying the reception and can feel rushed to take photos afterward. The first look also is good for late ceremonies where the sun will be set after the ceremony. It makes taking photographs a little tough since the natural light is gone.

I love Meredith's face in this one! As soon as JP saw Meredith he ran over to her. I think it took him a minute to pick his jaw up from the ground! He couldn't stop looking at her!

I love the vintage feel of this photo.
Everyone at The Matthews House were so helpful. I wanted to give a special thanks to Nina for helping me work the details and Cameron and Dustin for helping me with the two shots below. They were lifesavers! Thank you!

Meredith : Bridal

I'm so excited to finally be able to share these! Even though Meredith's a UNC grad, she agreed to visit the NCSU Arboretum for some shots. I love when brides are fun and open minded during the session. Meredith was willing to walk through the entire garden through the blazing heat without one complaint! She's a rock star!

Meredith asked if she could bring her bulldog Tia to the session. How could I refuse that sweet face! The Arboretum doesn't allow pets so we took them right outside. My favorite!

I'll post the photos from the wedding tomorrow. There are so many fun ones that it's been hard for me to choose! JP & Meredith, hope you had a wonderful honeymoon!

Andy & Christine : Wedding

I had the honor of photographing a wonderful couple last weekend. When I met with them the first time, Christine did most of the talking. She was happy and excited to be discussing the wedding. Andy patiently listened to every word without question, just an agreeing nod every once in a while. Andy and Christine are gentle and kind to those around them but especially towards each other. These two are like peanut butter and jelly - classic and meant for each other.

Thank you so much for letting me partake in the festivities! It was such a wonderful day and I feel blessed to have been there. Hope you enjoyed your honeymoon in Maine! Eat a lobster for me!

The ceremony was held in the Raleigh Little Theatre Rose Garden. There aren't private rooms for the bride and groom since everything was held outside. Since they are ones for tradition, Andy looked in the other direction while Christine made her way down the walkway and under the awning. I know he was tempted to look (because I know I would!) but he never did. It was so cool that they were so close to one another but had no clue what each other looked like. Love it!A quiet moment after the ceremony.The bride and groom decided to take a rickshaw from the Rose Garden to their reception at The Irregardless Cafe. Such a cool idea and so romantic!
Everyone at The Irregardless was so helpful and nice. Since it was a morning wedding, a brunch reception was fitting. I love the timing - so unique

Holidays are here! (sort of)

As I entered into October, I was in disbelief. "Can it really be the tenth month already?" Alas, here it is and so we must be ready! I just posted my 2008 line of Holiday Cards. Click here to check them out. I'm very excited about them!

The Maternal Glow

There is something about pregnant women that makes me happy. The way they smile like they have a secret, the glow about them, the twinkle in their eye... maybe it's how they unconsciously touch their tummies almost like they're just checking in with the little one. Or it could be that they are carrying a little human - you know, that whole miracle of life thing. :)

Manuela is no different. When I finally found her place (I got hopelessly lost!) she was all smiles and energy. It didn't surprise me when I learned she is a teacher. Her personality is calm and cheerful. I am positive that her class adores her because I know I did!

This is their first child and he is one lucky little guy! I hope to meet him when he arrives in a couple of months!

A Blessing In Disguise

Well, sort of a blessing in disguise. My website is back up up I have to put the pieces back together. That said, I've wanted to update my site with the new stuff I've done and well, just haven't had the time. I am now being forced to sit down and update it.

Coooool Big Brother

For those who don't know me, I love babies. I love everything about them. They're little and wrinkly and so darn cute! It's hard for me to believe that these little people grow up to be big people. I don't have children of my own yet so hanging out with kids of any age is a treat. You met Brady back in March. We hung out in celebration of his 3rd birthday. He's such a smart little guy with a booming personality.

I got to see Brady again a couple of weeks ago but this time in celebration of his new little brother Austin! He was less than 2 weeks old at the time of the shoot and just the cutest thing ever! Brady is definitely handling the big brother role well. I think he'll be more excited when Austin can actually play with him but for now he's okay. Brady and I decided that he was a "cooooooool big brother" and even had a sliding move to go with the title. Such a great kid!

Bill & Brandi : Engagement

I truly believe in six degrees of separation (or six degrees of Kevin Bacon but that's a different blog post). For those of you who aren't familiar, it's the theory that everyone is six steps away from everyone else.

My relationship with Brandi and Bill is the perfect example of this theory. I went to NCSU (Go Pack!) and signed up for a history class my senor year. Brandi happened to attend the same class. She would poke me if I fell asleep (it was 8am!) and we studied for the final. I attribute her to my passing grade. Brandi was also working at a local television station where Bill happened to work. My husband knew Bill since they both worked there and later met Brandi.
In summary:
1. Brandi & I had a class together
2. Bill & Michael worked at the TV station
3. Brandi & Bill worked at the TV station

I never thought that I'd have the privilege to shoot their November wedding. Brandi & Bill are wonderful people individually but when you put them together - WOW! Talk about fireworks! They are so easy to laugh and truly enjoy one another. I'm thrilled to be documenting their day in Greensboro in November. If the wedding is half as much fun as the engagement session, I count myself lucky! Thanks for braving the weather even though it was hot as "begeebus!"

A huge thank you to Henry Burgess at The Globe Restaurant & Bar in downtown Raleigh. It was so hot outside that Henry let us seek refuge inside for a couple of photos. The atmosphere in this place is awesome and the food smelled great! You've got to check it out! Thanks Henry!Bill, don't hate me for posting this one! You just looked so angelical!

Can't wait to see you guys next week for our road trip!

Morgan & Clint

I've know Morgan since, well, forever. I remember her hanging around my boyfriend's house playing with his sister. I remember a pool party where both girls celebrated their summer birthdays. They seemed so young. In my mind she was just the boyfriend's-little-sister's-friend.

A lot has changed since then. That boyfriend is now my husband and Morgan has not only grown up , she's also my friend. I'm so happy and honored to be a part of Morgan and Clint's wedding. They're getting married in May 2009 and I couldn't be happier for them.

In the time I've known Morgan, I've only talked to Clint three or four times. I was hoping at the end of the session to learn a little more about him and I didn't go home disappointed. Clint is funny and conversational and absolutely adores Morgan. Sometimes in an engagement session I have to "encourage" the couple to get a little closer since their a little hesitant to not only snuggle in public but to do it while I have a camera in their face. Not Clint. He couldn't get enough of Morgan. As I type, I can't help but smile thinking about how much they love each other. :)

Here's the sneak peek you have been so patiently awaiting! We went on the carousel and had a blast! I must say I'm proud of myself for not getting sick - I was riding backwards!

One of my favorites! Gotta love a sun flare!We managed through a rain shower by hanging out under this massive tree. Both of them were such troopers that the rain didn't even phase them.Another favortie! Morgan looks so happy and tranquil in Clint's arms.

At the end of the session, we ran into this little guy. This is Charlie and he means a lot to Morgan's family. He was so happy when Morgan & Clint walked up, he grabbed his soccer ball and wanted to play. He's so sweet! You guys were a blast! Thanks for hanging out with me! I'll have the gallery posted soon.

Southern Belles

I had the pleasure of photographing two ladies who were sweet as they could be. They invited me into their home and let me hang out with them for a little while. Granted, they had to give me a little sniff first but after that we were fast friends! Tallulah and Georgia (whose names make me think of a plantation in the South - love it!) are wonderful dogs!

Here is Tallulah (Springer Spaniel). This is one of my favorites! She looks so happy and content. Not to mention the alfalfa sprout!
And here is Georgia (Great Dane). This was one of the initial looks she gave me. Not too sure of camera but definitely wasn't scared of it! I love the gray around her muzzle. Definitely a gentle giant!

The Island of Aruba

I thought I'd show some more photos from Aruba. It's such a beautiful island that I can't help but share. Our friend Neil rented a Jeep and we were lucky enough to join him on his adventures. Aruba isn't very big so it's was easy to literally go from one end to the other. The only problem we found was that the roads weren't labeled. Seriously - no road signs at all. It's was still fun finding out way around!

Waves near the Natural Bridge. One side of the island has 9 foot waves were as the other side has none at all. I'm glad we stayed on the other side! These waves were massive!
We found a pet cemetery right on the beach. Oddly enough, a lot of pets on the island are named Shakira. This is a shot from Baby Beach near the bottom of the island. We met a great guy named Gary who showed us the local fish market. This is were Neil made his "big catch!"

Matt & Lauren: Wedding

You know when you see two people that are made for each other? You look at each of them individually and while they are wonderful separately, they are even better together.

Well, this is Matt and Lauren. They are two pieces that fit perfectly together. Lauren laughs so easily when he's around and you can just see her entire face light up when he walks in a room. Matt looks at her with complete adoration and devotion. Oh, and did I mention he can't stop looking at her!

This couple are dear to my heart. I was not only lucky enough to capture their wonderful wedding but lucky enough to do it as a friend. Thank you for allowing me to share in this and I wish you nothing but happiness!

Aruba was the perfect setting for them to say "I do." And I must say the perfect place to photograph a wedding! Here are some of the photos from the day. Aruba Here I Come!

So I'm off to Aruba! Our dear friends, Matt and Lauren are getting married this weekend and we couldn't be happier for them! They are two of the sweetest people and I wish them the world!
I'll be sure to blog lots of photos of the happy couple and maybe even a little from our vacation! How could I only go to Aruba for a couple of days?!

I love the Fourth of July! It's such a happy time of year! I hope that all of you have a wonderful and safe day/weekend!

In other news, I've been crazy busy and it's only going to get busier! In addition to the sessions I'm editing, I'm preparing for my first destination wedding! My dear friends Matt and Lauren are getting married in Aruba on July 19 and I couldn't be happier for them! I wish I was going today! More to come!

Europe!

So, I finally had a chance to look through my photos from Europe and was able to widdle them down to the Readers Digest version. Click here for a link to my website, go to galleries, and click Mediterranean to see them.

I couldn't believe I was so close to the Coliseum. The size is impressive! I heard about it in history class growing up but never imagined that I would be standing inside of it. Amazing experience!

This was my first glimpse of France! Beautiful! We enjoyed drinking wine, eating chocolate crepes, walking around this beautiful city. I could have stayed there forever.
This is from Pompei. For those who aren't familar, the city of Pompei and it's people were "cancelled" (as our tour guide said) when Mt. Vesuvius erupted around AD 79. I enjoyed walking around the ruins and seeing how they lived. The dog below is just sleeping. There were tons of dogs all around Pompei and I couldn't help but photograph them.

Hello! I'm back and the cruise was a blast! It was amazing to see such grandiose structures and realize that they are thousands of years old! I wanted to thank everyone their support for my exhibit at The Cotton Company. My showing ends today and I appreciate you all for supporting me. :) The Cotton Company is a wonderful venue and I'm honored to once again be a part of their Artist Series.

Also, I will be out of town from June 6 until June 15. My husband and some friends of ours are going on a Mediterranean cruise! Neither of us have been to Europe and we thought a cruise would give a good taste of multiple places. We've been saving for quite a while and I can't believe the day is here! I'm so excited! I have my memory cards ready and my equipment prepped! Now, I just have to make sure I get some shots of me and Michael and not just of the scenery (harder to do than you think!).

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph some amazing ladies, Rebecca and Marcy. They are a part of Baby Boot Camp and have been helping women get fit with their kids! Rebecca and Marcy are both certified trainers and both have little ones (as well as little ones on the way!) They know their stuff!

A Mother's Love

Michelle called and wanted to set up a portrait session. It was gift for her mother, Ivon. When Michelle was little, her and her mom would take a portrait together every year. As years past and everyone got busier and life continued, their tradition got moved to the side. At Ivon's request, the tradition was brought back to light!

Michelle showed her mom a great weekend by taking her to the Outer Banks for a day trip. They returned to Raleigh, got their hair done, and met me for their own personal portrait session. These ladies looked amazing! Throughout the session Ivon kept getting choked up. She was so sweet and you could just see how much she loves her daughter. I couldn't help but start tearing up myself!Thanks for spending time with me ladies!

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of hanging out with some ladies from East Carolina University. Those who know me, know that I'm a Wolfpack at heart but my second love is the Pirates! Yep, that's right ladies and gentlemen! I completed my second triathlon this past Saturday. It was held in Clayton, NC on a beautiful day! I have to say that this triathlon was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Yes, the first one was tough but the entire thing was flat. This was anything but flat! The hills seemed to go on forever! I'm glad I can say I did it!

Unfortunately, we forgot to take a photo at the finish line but here's one we took before we started. We looked so optimistic!
Afterwards we traveled to Greenville where I photographed some beautiful ladies who will be graduating in the near future. My sister was one of them! I promise I'll give you a sneak peek soon!

Those Eyes!

This is my friend Morgan. She recently was asked a simple question by a great guy named Russ. That question was, of course, "Will you marry me?" She replied with an unfaltering "Yes!" Words can't express how happy I am for them! They are both so down to earth and you just feel good when you're around them. Congrats!

The Best Thing I've Ever Done.

Three years ago yesterday I did the best thing I've ever done - I married the man of my dreams! I can honestly say that Michael is the greatest man I've ever known and I'm lucky that he asked me to be his wife. He is the glue that holds me together. As they say in the movie Juno, "He's the cheese to my macaroni."

Thanks, Michael, for the past three wonderful years - I can't wait to see what else is in store for us!I would have posted something yesterday but I was banned from doing photography work (in honor of our blessed day) :)

This is adorable Charlie! I had to refrain from pinching those cheeks! How cute! The whole family (even Mr. Stubs) played at the WRAL Gardens that were quite lovely. The tulips were amazing! Charlie was such a great subject and you'd never know that he was missing his nap to play with me. :)

I finished the triathlon! YAY! I'm an official tri-athlete now! It was a blast and I encourage everyone to do one! My time was 1:29:19. Michael was a superstar and finished in 1:14:52 - I'm so proud of him! We had so much fun, we're doing another one in April! Here's a photo of us at the finish line:

My dearest friend in the world, Jenny, got married to an amazing man, James, on February 16. I had the honor of being Matron of Honor and I was so grateful to be able to stand up there for those two! They are an amazing couple and I so blessed to have them as friends. I couldn't bring my camera on the alter (and I tried to find a way...) but I did manage to take a couple while I was in town.

I'm currently booking spring portrait sessions for families, babies, and seniors as well as weddings. My schedule seems to be getting full pretty quickly so if you're interested in booking something, the earlier, the better!

Valentine's Day is less than a month away and Easter is close behind! I need Valentine card orders by February 5 in order to have them to you by February 11. Easter portraits need to be done by March 8! This year is already flying by!

Okay, so I'm a couple of days late but Happy New Year!

I've been hearing a lot about resolutions so I thought I'd post a couple of mine :

- Finish a triathlon (key word is finish).
- Be published in a magazine (completed! pick up a copy of Cary Living Magazine and check out the bride Jill Osborne! I'll post a couple of pictures of the event a little later.)
- Get healthy. My goal is to eat better, lay off sugar, and exercise more (the triathlon training will help with that goal).
- Shoot a destination wedding.
- Get my new website up and running soon!

Here's a preview of Tim & Mary's Nov 15th session. In the middle of a drought, we finally get some rain and it just had to be the morning of their shoot. They hung around and patiently waited to see if it would stop. Much to our surprise it did and we had a great session! You guys were the best sports!
